What is Scavenging?

Scavenging -

In Automobiles, Scavenging is a process of pushing exhaust gas out of the cylinder and drawing in fresh draught of air or air fuel mixture for the next cycle. The process is essential in having a smooth running of I.C. Engine. If scavenging is incomplete the following stroke will begin with a mix of exhaust fumes rather than clean air. This may be insufficient for poor combustion which leading to poor running condition on an engine.

Scavenging Operations

Scavenging is equally important for both 2 Stroke and 4 Stroke Engine. However, it is more difficult to achieve in 2 Stroke engine.

What is Wankel Engine?

What is Wankel Engine? Introduction -   This Engine works on ordinary Otto cycle, but differs from the reciprocating I.C. Engine in that the piston in this case undergoes rotary instead of reciprocating motion. This design of Felix Wankel has provided a new challenge to the existing reciprocating engine. This has been developed by N.S.U. of Germany and Curtis Wright Co. of U.S.A. for commercial purposes. However, research is still going on to make it more efficient and to solve the sealing problem more efficiently. Mazda of Japan introduced its Wankel Engine sports car, RX-7 in 1979, which was most successful rotary engine powered car and was sold till 1995. Mazda R-8, a new car from Mazda has rotary engine called Renesis, which is a two rotor engine and has been named the international engine of the year 2003. Construction -  Fig 1 shows in simplified form the construction of Wankel Engine. Three lobed rotor rotates in the housing, which is epitrochoidal in shape. Thi...

What is a Trellis Frame?

Trellis Frame The frame is the skeleton of the bike. The same way as human need the bones, the bike need frame to hold weight. A motorcycle has to hold a lot of weight, body, engine, fuel tank, electronics, rider and pillion. If we look at some bike, they have thick bars frame forged together to bear weight. They are quite heavy and add lot of weight to bike. Solution of a Trellis frame leads to reduction in weight and also able to carry higher capacity loads. This divides load to evenly across all eds of frame. This frame is made using aluminum or alloy tubular bars joint in triangular form using cantilever method,
